1st lesson

Hale raced down the corridors, she was late. Late to her first lesson at hogwarts.

Panting, she swerved and arrived on the pitch. A girl was just dismounting her broom and Hales heart sank. She was too late.

"I. Am. SO. SORRY!" She panted, looking apologetically at the teacher.

Mai pressed her lips together but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't NOT laugh. Once the giggles had subsided, she said "Thank god! I thought I would be the only person to be late my first ever flying lesson at hogwarts." Mai looked at the girl criously. She had shoulder length black hair, an emo looking fringe and was dressed in hufflepuff robes.

Hale looked over at her friend. She had met Mai in her previous lesson, and even then had thought her a little strange. Smiling slightly at her sudden outburst, she said "No, I'm always late too!" Grinning to herself now more than anybody else, Hale looked at the teacher. "Like I said, I am so sorry!"

Mai smiled dreamily and started humming a tune from the lion king, a muggle film she loved. Her mind drifted to the smelll that filled her nose. It smelt like strawberrys and cream. It made her feel quite hungry so she pulled a clingfilm-wrapped chocolate cooking from her pocket and took a bite.

"Up?" said Emily nerviously, already weary of the heights she would be gathering in a minute. The broom on the floor rolled over and did nothing much else.

"It wont work if you dont believe in flying. What is the point of the necklass if your not eaven going to try and fly." Mai pouted in mock disapointmant but smiled incouragingly afterwards.

"Up." Emily said again, more determind this time. The broom raised a few inches from the ground and droped again. "Up!" she cried trying to get hte stupid thing to get in the air. This time the broom sensed the anger in her voice and hit her leg. "OW!" she said said, in pain, not knowing brooms could hit that hard.

mai laughed quietly "Come on, you don't honestly believe the broom will do anything if you dont truly believe in yourself. Just say it, loud and clear. Trust me. It'll be fine."

Emily sighed. "Up." she said again, this time loud and clear. The broom rolled over again. "I guess I'm jst not naturall at this.." she said.

"Keep trying! Make sure you infuse your voice with confidence." Mai encouraged her. She new that Emily would love flying if only she got over her fear of hights and learnt how good flying really was.

Emily tried again but this time the broom flew up into her hand. She was so shocked she almost dropped it again. Emily giggled. "Yay!" she said, glad that it had finally worked.

"Atlast" Mai sighed, rolling her eyes but she broke into a grin to show she wasn't serious. "Now, lets fly!"

"How do you... fly?" asked Emily looking confused.

"Well, the broom does the technical part and you steer with your hands. It easier than it sounds. I've done it loads." Mai said reasuringly. She picked up her broom, sat on it, and let it hover a bit before coming down to ground. "See?"
